Man on the run after axing wife to death in Dhubri

Guwahati: Tulsi Orao killed his wife with an axe in Saibari Nijpatti Line, Chapar. He is currently on the run. The incident happened in the Dhubri district after the husband returned home drunk on illicit country-made liquor.

Rekha Orao, the victim, was inside the house with her daughter and grandson when Tulsi arrived. The daughter opened the door. A fight over a minor issue exploded almost instantly. Tulsi grabbed an axe kept inside the home and struck his wife repeatedly. She died on the spot.

The All Assam Adivasi Students’ Association pointed fingers at local authorities. They claim the unchecked flow of illicit liquor fuels violence in tea garden areas. The group stated, "We had repeatedly complained to the Excise Department about the alleged illegal liquor trade, but no effective action had been taken."

AASAA members say illegal liquor shops operate openly across these regions. Police are still looking for Tulsi Orao. Investigators have not released further updates on the search.
