Guwahati: Officials converged on Dibrugarh to scout the Bogibeel site for a new riverine lighthouse. The team included representatives from the Inland Waterways Authority of India, the Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships, and the assigned EPC contractor.
They met to hammer out technical details. The project aims to upgrade navigational infrastructure across the region. It is a big push for safety. Better lighting means more efficient vessel movement along the inland waterway network.
Participants reviewed site-specific requirements during the inspection. This coordination helps ensure the project gets off the ground without hitches. The agencies view the facility as a vital link in regional transport. They stated the lighthouse will serve as an "important component of navigational infrastructure in the region" while bolstering vessel safety.

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal kicked off this project back in March. The Bogibeel site is just one piece of a four-part plan to install river lighthouses along the banks of the Brahmaputra River, which acts as National Waterway 2.
Construction crews will set up the other three lights at Pandu in Kamrup Metro, Silghat in Nagaon, and Biswanath Ghat. These will be the first river lighthouses built on inland waterways in the country. Each tower hits 20 metres in height, runs on solar power, and throws a beam out to 14 nautical miles.
The agency isn't just looking at ships. They plan to turn each location into a tourist draw. Expect a museum, amphitheatre, cafeteria, and a play area at every site.
