Guwahati: Police in Bongaigaon seized a Tata Ultra truck stuffed with rice on Tuesday. The vehicle, registration number AS 19 AC 6020, sat in the dark at Dumuria. Residents spotted the truck acting suspiciously while driving from the Lengtisiga area toward Abhayapuri. They called the cops. A patrol team arrived, searched the cabin, and found the load.
Officers hauled the truck to the local station. They are now working to track the origin of the grain and identify the smugglers. Officials said, "An investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the rice and identify those allegedly involved in its transportation."
Local groups claim this illegal trade has plagued Abhayapuri for months. They previously pushed the administration to shut down the network. Cops are currently digging into the local smuggling rings to find the source of the supply.
