Guwahati: Authorities detained nine individuals at the New Bongaigaon railway station in Assam on Tuesday, September 29. The Bongaigaon Border Police, working alongside the Government Railway Police, took the group into custody around 5 pm. Officials suspect the detainees are illegal Bangladeshi nationals.
The group arrived at the station with plans to board a train for Chennai. Police are now interrogating the individuals to verify their identities and background. The Bongaigaon Police have launched an investigation into the matter. A spokesperson stated, "The nine were detained by the Bongaigaon Border Police with the assistance of the Government Railway Police."

Investigators caught the suspects in stages. Officers grabbed six of the men near the ticket counters before tracking down three more after questioning. All nine are male.
A search of the detainees turned up four Bangladeshi national ID cards, one Bangladeshi passport, and three fake Indian Aadhaar cards. Police also seized six mobile phones and five railway tickets during the operation.
