Bongaigaon Police Launch Martial Arts Squad for Durga Puja

Guwahati: Bongaigaon Police in Assam have assembled a 15-member Anti-Romeo Squad to shield women and young girls from harassment during the Durga Puja celebrations. The unit operates under the direction of Senior Superintendent of Police Nomal Mahatta.

The squad is lead by a female sub-inspector and includes a mix of male and female officers. All 15 members spent the last month sharpening their skills. They completed specialized martial arts training to prepare for the heavy crowds. The team will patrol town locations and Durga Puja pandals on two-wheelers.

Officers will monitor security setups and intervene if anyone acts inappropriately toward women or girls. Police officials stated that the goal is "ensuring a safer environment for women and young girls visiting pandals and participating in Durga Puja celebrations." This proactive deployment aims to harden on-ground security throughout the festive period.
