Luxmi Tea Earns National Honor for Workplace Safety

Guwahati: Luxmi Tea Co Private Limited earned the Excellence in POSH Governance and Compliance Award at the 4th National POSH Conclave and Excellence Awards 2026 in New Delhi. The group, which runs 21 estates in India and four in Rwanda, received the honor for its work protecting women from harassment. The award honors firms following the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act of 2013. It is organized by the NoMeansNo initiative, which is backed by the Centre for Skill Development and Training and the Delhi government.

The company hosted 144 awareness workshops over two years. Nearly 10,000 workers attended these sessions in local languages. Workers now benefit from estate-level champions and stronger internal committees. Monumoti Kalandi, a plucker at Moran Tea Estate, noted the impact of these changes. "Earlier, many of us did not know where to go or whom to approach. Today we understand our rights and know someone will listen. The training has given us confidence to speak for ourselves and to stand beside other women," Kalandi said.

Beyond safety, Luxmi Tea drives community growth. Women at Makaibari Tea Estate now run beekeeping and tourism projects. Moran Tea Estate staff manage vermicomposting and snack enterprises. These initiatives include scholarships and youth sports clubs. Sudhanya Pal, an officer for sustainability, wants to push beyond simple legal compliance. "Meaningful change happens when awareness evolves into confidence and confidence into leadership. Our goal is to help create workplaces where every individual feels safe, respected and empowered to speak without fear," Pal stated.

North Bank Tea Estates leader Atoli Achumi emphasized that visible management makes staff more willing to report issues. Managing Director Rudra Chatterjee accepted the award on behalf of the entire workforce. "Tea is ultimately about people. Their dignity, safety and aspirations deserve the same commitment we devote to producing the finest teas. This recognition belongs to every worker and colleague who has helped build this culture, and it is a responsibility to keep raising the benchmark," Chatterjee said.
