SEWA Launches New Shakti Kendra in Tuensang

Kohima: The Self Employed Women's Association, known as SEWA, opened its new SEWA Shakti Kendra on August 28. The office sits at House number 23 in Bazaar C, Tuensang. This center acts as a hub for informal workers to gain skills, share concerns, and protect their rights. It is not just an office.

Temjenlemla, the State Project Coordinator for SEWA Nagaland, oversaw the launch. She noted the site functions as a place for collective action. "The SSK was not merely an office but a space where women could voice concerns, access services and collectively work towards solutions to challenges affecting their lives and livelihoods," she said.

Tiamenla, a member of the SEC, chaired the event. Anung, the District Convenor, provided the welcome address while K. Achung from the Tuensang Town Baptist Lashong led the prayer. The event finished with thanks from District Secretary Starr and a final blessing from Treasurer Shithsangla.

SEWA started in 2013 with a group in Dimapur. It now counts more than 3,000 members across Kohima, Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Tuensang, Shamator, Phek, and Meluri. The Tuensang facility is the group's fifth operational centre. It joins existing locations in Dimapur, Kohima, Pfutsero, and Shamator.
