Assam Governor Honours Veteran Freedom Fighter in Dibrugarh

Guwahati: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya visited the home of 96-year-old freedom fighter Phanidhar Gogoi in Dibrugarh on September 21. The visit was part of the Governor Assam Varishtha Nagrik Samman initiative. The program recognizes the service of the state's elderly residents.

Acharya presented the veteran educator with a basket of fruits, an umbrella, a dhoti, a seleng sador, an Assamese gamosa, and a cheque for Rs 51,000. It was a formal salute to a man who spent his life serving the nation. The Governor praised Gogoi for his work as a teacher and his early fight for independence.

Acharya highlighted the importance of these elders. He said, "honouring senior citizens was a mark of respect for the values, contributions and struggles of the generation that helped build the nation." The Governor finished the meeting by offering his best wishes for Gogoi to enjoy continued good health and a long life.
