Kohima: The Lotha Lower Range Public Organisation (LLRPO), representing 35 villages in Wokha district, has appointed a new Executive Council for the 2026 to 2029 term. Dr. Khonsao Alex will serve as president, joined by Yansathung Jami as vice president and Er. Yanpvuo Kikon as general secretary.
During its General Assembly, the organization addressed the recent Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding regarding hydrocarbon exploration in the Disputed Area Belt. The group insisted that any future extraction must respect customary land rights and ensure equitable benefit-sharing. Referencing the history of the Changpang oil fields, which produced oil from 1981 to 1994, the House stated, "Natural resources should serve as instruments of long-term prosperity and inter-generational development rather than become sources of conflict and division."
The assembly also emphasized the need for a high-quality Foothill Road to bolster inter-district connectivity and economic growth. Furthermore, the LLRPO called for the modernization of the local Seed Farm to better support rural livelihoods and agricultural productivity across the region.
On broader state issues, the organization advocated for a peaceful, permanent resolution to the Assam-Nagaland border dispute. Members also encouraged a responsible approach to the upcoming Census to ensure the collection of accurate demographic data for future policy planning and resource allocation.
