Kohima: The Lotha Eloe Hoho has issued a strong condemnation of two recent sexual assault cases in Nagaland, calling for urgent and impartial investigations. The organization expressed deep concern over the alleged rape of an 82-year-old woman in Kiphire, a crime purportedly involving an Armed Branch Constable. The group stated that because the suspect serves in a disciplined force, the act represents a grave betrayal of public trust.
A second incident involves a 17-year-old girl who was allegedly assaulted by a 40-year-old church youth leader in Kohima Village. This case has caused significant anguish, as the accused held a position of moral influence and responsibility over the youth. The organization emphasized that sexual violence is never acceptable and harms the entire community.
Addressing the gravity of these crimes, the Hoho noted that such acts violate the well-being of victims and undermine public confidence in institutions. The organization stated, "Individuals vested with public trust must maintain the highest standards of integrity, professionalism and accountability."
Law enforcement agencies are being urged to ensure these cases proceed quickly and transparently. Furthermore, the Hoho called on parents, community leaders, and civil society members to work collectively to foster a safer environment for women and children across the state. They remain in solidarity with the victims and their families as the legal process continues.
