Kohima: Health officials in Longleng pushed a district-wide effort this June to stop malaria in its tracks. The Office of the District Vector Borne Officer organized the drive under the theme, "Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must." They targeted high-risk spots to find cases early.
Teams screened migrant workers for infections. They visited schools and local health units to teach students and families about transmission and symptoms. People learned why sleeping under Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets remains the best way to stay safe.
The campaign kept the pressure on for weeks. Staff held group talks in town wards and village centers to get the community involved. From June 10 to 25, surveillance workers and ASHAs visited homes every evening. They checked that people were using their nets correctly and shared tips on keeping the insects away.
Students joined the fight too. Six schools sent pupils to a poster competition at the CMO Conference Hall on June 22. Winners took home prizes and certificates for their work. The campaign drew support from NGOs, community leaders, and the public to clear malaria from the district.
