Longleng Launches Major Tree Planting Campaign Along NH-702A

Kohima: Longleng officials and local organizations kicked off a district-wide plantation campaign on June 20, targeting a 12-kilometer stretch of National Highway-702A. The project, organized by the District Planning and Development Board and Lemsachenlok, spans from the New Medical Site to the Lemsachenlok Office Junction.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Thungchanbemo Tungoe inaugurated the event at Orangkong Junction. During the launch, he emphasized the need for community cooperation, stating, "Collective responsibility in protecting the environment and called upon all sections of society to actively participate in tree plantation and conservation efforts."

The initiative involves 41 government departments, the Orangkong Village Council, and the Phom People's Council. To ensure the survival of the new greenery, Lemsachenlok chairman Y Nuklu Phom confirmed that all planted saplings will be geo-tagged. This digital tracking allows for ongoing monitoring and growth assessment.

Divisional Forest Officer R S Prasad highlighted the role of such efforts in stabilizing the local ecology and addressing climate change. Leaders from the Phom People's Council echoed these sentiments, noting the long-term benefits for future generations. Each participating department has been assigned specific sections of the route to manage and maintain, ensuring the initiative contributes to a sustainable and greener landscape for the district.
