Kohima: A district-wide plantation drive launched along a 12 km stretch of National Highway 702A on June 20. The project, which runs from the New Medical Site to the Lemsachenlok Office Junction, represents a collaborative effort between the organization Lemsachenlok and the District Planning and Development Board of Longleng.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Thungchanbemo Tungoe inaugurated the initiative at Orangkong Junction. He called for a shared commitment to environmental protection and urged residents across all social sectors to contribute to tree planting and long-term conservation efforts.

Lemsachenlok chairman Y. Nuklu Phom explained that the group intends to use modern tracking to ensure the survival of the new growth. He stated, "all saplings planted would be geo tagged for proper monitoring and assessment."

Local leadership and government officials emphasized the broader impacts of the project. Divisional forest officer R.S. Prasad noted that such efforts are vital for maintaining ecological balance and addressing climate change. Additionally, Y.B. Angam Phom, president of the Phom People’s Council, stressed the necessity of nurturing trees to secure a healthy environment for future generations.

The event began with an opening chaired by EAC Sakshi, Er. Keyileuteing Ndang, followed by an invocation from Orangkong Baptist Church pastor Pangpen. The initiative drew participation from 41 government departments, the Orangkong Village Council, and the Phom People’s Council.
