Kohima: Residents of Longkhum village gathered on Saturday for a community-led cherry plantation drive. Organized in collaboration with the village council, the project aims to promote eco-tourism while strengthening local efforts to protect the environment.

The event began with an inaugural session featuring Dr. Yutsung Imchen, who emphasized the necessity of collective responsibility. He stated that the community must cultivate awareness to care for and preserve “Mother Nature.” Village chairman Longkumbo welcomed the volunteers, thanking the various local organizations and individuals who contributed their time to the initiative.

Following an opening prayer by Rev. T. Aka Jamir of Longkhum Baptist Church, participants including youth groups, student organizations, and self-help groups distributed saplings to every household. The volunteers planted the trees along roadsides, near the village playground, and at several sites of historical significance to the area.
