Guwahati: A 19-year-old Guwahati tourist survived a 100-foot plunge near the Dzükou Valley. Hisahetuk Das slipped from a trail near Khiyokesa at 3 pm on July 18. He fell while trekking through the Viswema area in Nagaland.
Local rescue teams mobilized quickly. Members of the Southern Angami Tour Guide Council, the Viswema Youth Organisation, and the Z Khel Viswema Youth Organisation reached the crash site. They battled heavy rain, steep cliffs, and dense dwarf bamboo to pull Das to safety. Virato Naleo, vice-president of the Southern Angami Youth Organisation and chairman of the guide council, directed the operation.
The Community Health Centre in Viswema provided an ambulance for transport. Doctors at the Naga Hospital Authority in Kohima treated his injuries. The Southern Angami Youth Organisation cited the recovery as proof that local help is vital. They noted that the incident showed "the importance of trained local guides and community volunteers in responding to emergencies in remote trekking areas."
The group now mandates caution for visitors. They urge trekkers to hire registered guides during the monsoon. Such measures ensure safer trips and faster response times on tough routes.
