Kohima: A 19-year-old tourist from Guwahati survived a 100-foot plunge off a cliff near the Dzukou Valley trail. Hisahetuk Das slipped from the footpath below Khiyokesa in Viswema Village during his trek. He fell around 3 pm on July 18.

Heavy rain lashed the area. The terrain was brutal. Steep cliffs and thick dwarf bamboo blocked the path, yet rescuers reached the injured man. Trained members of the Southern Angami Tour Guide Council worked alongside volunteers from the Viswema Youth Organisation and the Z Khel Viswema Youth Organisation to carry the victim to safety.

SAYO President Zasitsolie Beio praised the team for their bravery. He specifically pointed to the leadership of Virato Naleo, the SAYO Vice President and chairman of the Southern Angami Tour Guide Council, for coordinating the mission. The Community Health Centre in Viswema provided an ambulance. Doctors at the Naga Hospital Authority in Kohima treated his injuries.

SAYO officials stated the successful rescue showed the high level of preparedness and efficiency of local teams. They issued a stern warning for future visitors. "Tourists should engage registered local tour guides, particularly during the monsoon season and when undertaking difficult routes, to ensure safety and facilitate prompt emergency response if required," the organization noted.
