Kohima: The District Agriculture Office in Kohima delivered a modern threshing machine and a specialized millet milling machine to Kezoma village on Tuesday. This equipment aims to slash post-harvest losses and cut down the heavy manual labor that has long plagued millet farmers. District Agriculture Officer Kekhrieletuo Yhome led the commissioning alongside the Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer and the local Agriculture Inspector.
Kezoma has become a model village for millet farming. It reversed a multi-decade decline in the crop through collective work. Yhome noted that the village now stands among the top millet producers in the Kohima district. He urged locals to use the new tools to expand their output. "The introduction of appropriate farm mechanisation, combined with traditional farming practices, is helping farmers improve productivity while reducing physical drudgery," said Deacon Board Chairman Mezangol Yongo.
Department staff provided a live demonstration for the farmers. They also held hands-on training sessions to ensure the community understands how to run and fix the machines. The impact is already visible. Kezoma Baptist Church manages nearly five acres of millet. Numerous other farmer groups and individuals now cultivate the crop on a wide scale.
