Kohima: Student and youth organizations are demanding a hard investigation after a vehicle killed two Don Bosco Higher Secondary School students in Dimapur on August 29. The victims were walking when a Maruti Gypsy, registration number NL07 CA 5405, struck them.
The Rongmei Students' Organization Nagaland described the event as a multiple hit-and-run case. Reports indicate the vehicle hit other people and vehicles during the spree. Some groups claim the driver ran over the students after they had already fallen to the ground. Zeliang Youth Organisation Dimapur blamed the tragedy on rash and negligent driving. One person involved in the crash is currently on the run.
The Dimapur Naga Students' Union, RSON, Zeliang Students' Union Nagaland, Western Naga Youth Front, and ZYOD are pressing for immediate legal action. They want the police to verify if the driver acted with deliberate intent. ZSUN stated, "Two innocent lives lost. Two families devastated. We demand truth. We demand a proper investigation. We demand justice."
The WNYF warned authorities against shielding anyone from punishment. They called for compensation for the families under the victim compensation scheme. The ZYOD also asked for stricter traffic enforcement to stop future accidents. For now, the groups have asked the community to stay calm while the police investigation moves forward.
