Kohima: A speeding vehicle plowed through a Dimapur street on Saturday night. The driver hit a motorcycle, a car, and a tempo before running over two pedestrians in Veterinary Colony. Police confirmed the deaths on Sunday, August 30.
The victims were 15-year-old Macagbou Charenamai from Manipur and 17-year-old Gaisinlung Thangmei of Kohima. Both lived in the Burma Camp area. Emergency responders rushed the teens to a hospital. They died from their injuries shortly after arrival.
Officers arrested the driver, Bumei Phom, following the collision. The East Police Station filed a formal case against him. The Dimapur Police PRO stated, "Further investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident is underway." Detectives are now piecing together exactly how the crash unfolded.

The vehicle involved was a Gypsy. The crash occurred near an ATM booth in the Burma Camp area around 7:45 pm on August 29. Police reports clarify that Macagbou Charenamai died at the District Hospital, while Gaisinlung Thangmei passed away later at Nikos Hospital.
Investigators charged 25-year-old Bumei Phom under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act. Authorities confirmed the Gypsy hit a Royal Enfield motorcycle, a Maruti car, and a pickup auto before striking the pedestrians.
