Imphal: Wangkhei MLA Thangjam Arunkumar committed to developing Mekhalipara into a historical landmark. This site sits inside a tea garden and marks the first known settlement of Meiteis in Tripura. The legislator made the pledge at the Imalongi Kumhei event held at the Muktadhara Auditorium in Agartala. The Patriotic Writers Forum of Manipur and Tripura hosted the gathering for the 35th Manipuri Language Day.
Arunkumar stressed the need to preserve cultural heritage. He wants future generations to know their roots. He pointed to deep historical ties between the royal houses of Manipur and Tripura. "The performance of Manipuri Ras Lila in Tripura in 1798 was among the historical connections that reflected the close cultural relationship between the two regions," Arunkumar noted.
The event highlighted strong literary and artistic bonds. Organizers released Ahingba Mitam, a poetry book by Moirangthem Rajkumar. Performers presented Lai Haraoba, Pung Cholom, and other traditional dance styles. Notable contributors included Dr. Sudhesana of Anoy Academy, Baishali of Ninad Cultural Academy, and choreographer Leina Takhellambam of Takhel Dance Academy. The MLA praised local artistes for keeping the language and music alive.
