Kezoma Hosts Second Annual Millet Festival This Saturday

Kohima: Kezoma village gears up for its second Ochü Millet Festival this Saturday. The event kicks off at 11:00 AM at Zake Ground on August 26. Organizers aim to highlight the resurgence of millet crops under the theme Tiny Grain, Healthy Future. The Kezoma Village Council partnered with the Nagaland Department of Agriculture and allied sectors to host the gathering.

Farmers are back. The crop nearly vanished before recent efforts brought it back to local fields. The committee noted, "Millet cultivation, once on the decline, has witnessed a revival in the village, with more farmers returning to the crop." Last year's inaugural festival saw record sales. It proved the grain remains a viable local product.

Kezoma sits 40 kilometres from Kohima. The local climate supports two harvests every year. The current stock hit the soil in July. More than 20 vendors from Kezoma and surrounding areas will sell organic vegetables and millets. Attendees can eat at the Millet Food Court or buy tickets for a grand buffet.

Dr. Zasekuolie Chüsi, the Agriculture Production Commissioner and Secretary for Agriculture and Land Revenue, serves as the special guest. Agriculture Director Sanuzo Neinu and District Agriculture Officer Kekhrieletuo Yhome will also speak. Everyone is invited to meet the farmers and see the grain go from farm to table.
