Guwahati: Kamrup Metropolitan district launched World Breastfeeding Week this Saturday. The campaign runs through August 7 to push infant nutrition and maternal health. Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Saikia, the Joint Director of Health Services, kicked things off at the Satgaon State Ayushman Arogya Mandir.
The event drew a crowd. Dr. Bhabendra Kumar Das, the District Immunisation Officer, joined Dr. Dhruba Rajbangshi, the in-charge of the local Ayushman Arogya Mandir, and Dr. Karobee Hazarika, the District Nodal Officer for AYUSH. National Health Mission staff including the District Programme Manager, District Media Expert, and District Community Mobiliser also attended alongside nurses, doctors, and local mothers.
Officials planned a full schedule for the week. Health centers across the district will host meetings, counseling sessions, and interactive talks. Staff will hand out educational materials to families. The goal is simple. "World Breastfeeding Week aims to educate mothers and families about the benefits of breastfeeding, provide guidance and support to lactating mothers, and promote healthy infant feeding practices," according to the official campaign briefing.
This initiative targets exclusive breastfeeding rates. The district intends to shore up maternal and child healthcare services through these targeted outreach efforts.
