Kabaddi player dead, two injured in Guwahati hit-and-run

Guwahati: A speeding vehicle killed a young Kabaddi player and left two teammates injured on a national highway Monday. The crash occurred on the Basistha-Sarusajai stretch in Guwahati on July 27. Vaishnavi Saha, a Dhirenpara resident, died instantly after being struck just after leaving her practice at the Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex.

The driver fled the scene. Witnesses reported the vehicle was moving at a high rate of speed when it smashed into the group. The impact killed Saha on the spot. Two other athletes, Vidya and Manisha from Amingaon, survived the collision. Both women were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Basistha Police identified the getaway car as having license plate AS 26 C 4335. Officials noted the vehicle was traveling from Lakhra toward Khanapara during the incident. Police have seized the car. Officers are now hunting for the missing driver. An investigation into the circumstances of the crash is active, as police work to determine exactly what happened. Officials stated, "An investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the accident."
