Guwahati Police Commissioner Orders Inquiry Into Bharalumukh Station Altercation

Guwahati: Guwahati Police Commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta launched a formal inquiry into a clash between Bharalumukh Police Station staff and local journalists. The incident occurred on the night of Tuesday, September 22. Tension flared while media members gathered outside the station to track a cannabis seizure.

Reports suggest the officer-in-charge and Sub-Inspector Lipika Chetia misbehaved with the news crew. Mahanta tasked Deputy Commissioner of Police for Crime, Debajit Nath, with uncovering exactly what happened. The commissioner noted he acted after seeing reports on social media. His official order states, "Dr. Debajit Nath, APS, DCP (Crime), is hereby entrusted with conducting an inquiry into the matter."

Nath must submit a factual report soon. This is not the first time Chetia has faced such claims. She allegedly misbehaved with a patient during a previous posting in Mangaldoi. Officials await the final report from the investigation to determine the next steps.
