Guwahati: A third-year B.Tech student remains missing after tumbling into the Brahmaputra River. The accident happened Saturday, August 1, near the IIT Guwahati campus. Two students walked along the riverbank before they slipped into the water.
The State Disaster Response Force rushed to the scene to launch a rescue mission. Crews pulled one student to safety and rushed her to a hospital for treatment. The other student disappeared into the current. Police confirmed the details Sunday, August 2.
"The SDRF team rescued one of the students and shifted her to a hospital for treatment. However, despite an extensive search, the other student could not be traced," a police official said.
Searchers identified the missing student as Kachana Sai Chethana. She is from Jammalamadugu, Andhra Pradesh, and studies Electronics and Communication Engineering. The SDRF continued the search operation throughout Sunday. Officials still do not know how the pair fell into the river, and the investigation remains open.
