Guwahati: Traffic authorities in Guwahati have implemented a new rule requiring Green Bus drivers to display their driving licences prominently on the front windshield of their vehicles. This move aims to increase driver accountability and curb frequent traffic violations by shifting focus from vehicle penalties to individual driver responsibility.

Deputy Commissioner of Police for Traffic Jayanta Sarathi Bora confirmed that the policy was finalized following a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee. The committee decided that visible identification is essential for effective enforcement, as it allows officers to photograph a driver's licence during traffic stops and immediately report violations to the Guwahati Municipal Corporation or the Assam State Transport Corporation for departmental action.

Officials report that the initiative is already yielding results by encouraging more responsible driving habits across the public transit fleet. Traffic police and transport department staff will continue joint monitoring efforts to ensure safety protocols are upheld. Regarding the broader impact of this strategy, officials stated that the measure is part of a plan to "strengthen compliance with road safety norms and ensure safer travel for passengers and other commuters."
