Guwahati-born guitarist Bhargav Choudhury finds success in Los Angeles music scene

Guwahati: Born and raised in Guwahati, Assam, musician Bhargav Choudhury has built a significant career in Los Angeles since relocating there in 2016. After training at the Musicians Institute, Choudhury became a fixture in the local music circuit, performing at venues like The Viper Room and the Teragram Ballroom. His professional rise includes a residency at the Hollywood Roosevelt and a halftime performance at the 2025 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Choudhury began playing guitar at age 14, deeply influenced by the vibrant local culture in Assam and artists such as Bhupen Hazarika and Zubeen Garg. His current work with his band, The Conscious Outlaws, blends rock, funk, and blues, while his production team, Stereo Sanctuary, continues to foster international collaborations. He is also preparing for a performance at the Louder Than Life festival with his power trio.

Reflecting on his path from India to the United States, Choudhury emphasizes the importance of authenticity in his craft. He notes that his background provides a unique perspective that enriches his creative output. Regarding his approach to the industry, he stated, "I make the kind of music that feels natural to me first, and I believe listeners connect with that honesty."

Looking ahead, the guitarist intends to bridge the gap between Northeast Indian musicians and global platforms. He encourages aspiring artists from his home region to embrace their heritage as a source of strength, urging them to remain disciplined while pursuing their ambitions on a global scale.
