Guwahati: The new terminal at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati earned a spot on the prestigious Prix Versailles World’s Most Beautiful Airports List 2026. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the achievement on Monday, highlighting the global recognition of the state’s design traditions and architectural identity.

The terminal features a design that blends modern passenger amenities with elements drawn from local craftsmanship, nature, and traditional motifs. According to Sarma, the recognition confirms that the global community is increasingly aware of the region's unique aesthetic. "The world is taking note of Assam’s architectural identity," Sarma said in a statement shared on X.

The airport serves as a vital gateway to Northeast India, and this accolade marks its inclusion in an exclusive international group of buildings celebrated for design excellence. The Prix Versailles honors top-tier architecture across various sectors, including public infrastructure and museums, emphasizing projects that integrate cultural heritage with contemporary functionality.
