Governor Vijayashankar Urges Youth Involvement in Meghalaya Traditions

Shillong: Governor CH Vijayashankar issued a call on Wednesday for Meghalaya’s youth to take a larger role in local culture. He spoke at All Saints’ Cathedral during the third foundation day of the group Meghalaya Together. The event, held under the theme Breaking Bread, Building Bridges, featured a Unity Feast that drew residents from across the state.

The Governor pressed senior citizens to pull young people into social, spiritual, and cultural projects. He views the state's wide range of traditions as a core strength. He told the crowd, “Let them also feel that we also belong to Meghalaya. We are also part of Meghalaya.” No group should feel left out of these public celebrations.

Vijayashankar wants future Unity Feast gatherings to focus specifically on bridging the gap between generations. He praised Meghalaya Together for their efforts in education and social harmony. Drug abuse remains a major worry. He warned that society must act now to protect the younger generation from this growing threat.
