Kohima: The Ministry of Labour and Employment recently hosted a recruitment event at the CIHSR Hospital Campus in Chumoukedima. The program, part of the nationwide Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana, aimed to promote formal job growth and support first-time workers through financial incentives.

Robert Longchari, Commissioner and Secretary for Labour and Employment, urged attendees to broaden their career goals. He noted that government job opportunities have reached a saturation point and encouraged graduates to consider private industry and entrepreneurship instead. Longchari stated, "Every sector today requires skilled professionals."

This initiative focuses on bringing workers into the organized sector to ensure access to social security, including pension, insurance, and provident fund coverage. During the event, officials distributed nine employment letters to new workers, marking the practical application of the government scheme. The program also included addresses from Regional PF Commissioner S. Das and Labour Commissioner Avile Vitso.

The local event aligned with a nationwide broadcast from New Delhi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi disbursed incentives totaling Rs. 2,400 crore to more than 15 lakh beneficiaries across India. The PM VBRY initiative provides a one-month wage incentive of up to Rs. 15,000 for new employees while offering employers support for up to two years to encourage sustained job creation.
