Guwahati: Garima Saikia Garg wants the public to stop marking September 19 as a death anniversary for her late husband, Zubeen Garg. She insists the singer remains present in spirit. "Please do not use the word 'death anniversary'. He is here… he will always be here," she wrote in a social media plea. Fans prepare to honor the musician as legal proceedings grind on.
The Supreme Court denied bail to Shyamkanu Mahanta on August 17. Justices BV Nagarathna and R Mahadevan reviewed the plea in SLP (Crl.) No. 11523/2026. Mahanta, who organized the North East India Festival in Singapore, was arrested in October 2025. He remains one of seven accused in the case involving the singer's death in Singapore last year.
State prosecutors confirmed the murder trial is underway. A fast-track court in Assam already framed charges against four suspects. All seven defendants pleaded not guilty. Authorities have listed 394 witnesses. They recorded statements from 94 individuals by August 14. Defense lawyers pointed out that key witnesses in Singapore still require examination. The government expects these statements within three weeks. Justices advised the state to speed up the process but kept the bail plea pending until October 5.
