Guwahati: Gohpur is gearing up for a massive literary giveaway. The Jonohitaishi Library will hand out 100,000 books at no cost during the upcoming Zubeen Garg Free Book Fair. The event takes place at the Lambodar Bora Rangmanch and Library at Brahmajan Thali Pukhuri.

Garima Garg will open the fair on December 6 or 7. She is the sister of the late Assamese cultural icon Zubeen Garg. The organizers named the event after him to honor his lasting impact on the region.

The project started in 2025. Jibon Saikia of Lakhimpur and adviser Bubul Hazarika launched the program to get books into the hands of more readers. The committee hopes to spark a genuine love for learning in the younger generation. They want people reading across all genres. The organizers stated the initiative is focused on "providing people with access to books across different subjects and genres."
