Kohima: Residents of Lerie in Kohima received free medical care on June 27 during a health camp held under a local ward adoption project. The event brought doctors and specialists directly to the community to provide consultations, ultrasound services, dental exams, and minor surgeries.
MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo (Ato) Rhutso organized the camp alongside the Kohima Ward Adoption Committee. Dr. Ato noted that his team has completed over 1,000 surgeries across 25 state locations through the Chief Minister's Mobile Operation Theatre initiative. Future camps will target Lerie Chazou, New Minister’s Hill, and New Reserve Colony.
EAC (Sadar) Kohima Dr. Riku Khutso, who leads the adoption committee, emphasized the focus on local access. He told the gathering, "making health service accessible to the doorstep of the ward was more important than other developmental activities."
The Family Planning Association of India (FPAI) provided cervical cancer screenings during the event. FPAI General Manager Vincent Belho warned that the disease is a top cause of cancer deaths for women in India. The team also shared information on HIV prevention and the importance of regular health check-ups. Meanwhile, the District TB Centre used AI-powered handheld X-ray equipment to screen residents for tuberculosis as part of a 100-day elimination campaign.
