Aizawl: Rising floodwaters from the Khawthlangtuipui River forced 80 families from their homes in Lunglei district this week. Torrential rain triggered the surge. Tlabung town saw 42 families flee submerged houses, while 40 more families escaped Tipperaghat village as the water hit their doorsteps.

Landslides and rockfalls are choking the state. Authorities tracked 29 separate incidents across Mizoram. No deaths have turned up yet. National Highway 54 sits under a pile of debris near Bualte village, trapping tourists for four days and sealing off the Lawngtlai and Siaha districts.

A major rockfall at Ngaizel closed the Aizawl-Thenzawl-Lunglei highway. State Disaster Management Minister Lalnilawma inspected the mess on Thursday. He urged residents to watch for more trouble as the rain keeps coming. The minister promised help for the displaced, stating, "Financial assistance and relief would be provided promptly and transparently to affected families in accordance with government norms."
