Family Protests After Patient Dies at Silchar Hospital

Guwahati: Tension boiled over at South City Hospital in Silchar, Assam, following the death of a patient named Samir Uddin. Angry family members and locals swarmed the facility to protest alleged medical negligence. Police arrived on the scene to contain the escalating unrest.

Uddin, a resident of Kashipur in Cachar district, died under disputed circumstances. His relatives claim staff hid the truth about his condition for hours. They allege the hospital kept them in the dark, insisting he remained in the intensive care unit long after he had already passed away. The family now demands a full accounting for the communication breakdown.

Grief turned to rage over the treatment of life-saving supplies. Family members say staff demanded they provide blood for his care, only for them to find the units later discarded and unused. Beyond these claims, the family accused security personnel of active hostility when they pressed for basic updates. One relative stated: The family has demanded an impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding Uddin’s death, the alleged delay in informing them and the handling of the blood arranged for his treatment.

Authorities have yet to issue a formal response. The police investigation into the facility continues. Officials are still waiting for statements from hospital management.
