Agartala: Entrepreneur Lipi Bhowmik is bucking trends in Khowai. She produced 300 eco-friendly rakhis crafted entirely from cow dung. Bhowmik, a local expert in jute crafts, offers this sustainable alternative to standard plastic goods. Her work pushes rural communities toward greener habits.

Meanwhile, the market in Agartala looks bleak. Traders report dismal sales figures for this year’s Rakhi Purnima. Store owners blame the decline on mobile phone addiction among school children. Students in classes VIII, IX, and X used to flood the shops. This year, the crowds stayed home.

Prices remained stable despite the downturn. Shops sold items for Rs 10 or Rs 20 just like in previous years. Even with 200 varieties on display, the counters stayed quiet. One discouraged merchant noted that despite having plenty of stock, sales were “extremely poor.”

Parents made a few small purchases, but footfall failed to meet expectations. The festive buzz disappeared from Agartala. Experts suggest that local sellers must change their marketing tactics to survive. Bhowmik’s success signals a shift toward sustainability. The rest of the market faces an uncertain future as technology reshapes old traditions.
