Kohima: Don Bosco Higher Secondary School in Kohima hosted its annual Science and Arts Exhibition on July 31. The event, themed Igniting Ideas, Inspiring Change, showcased work from over 1,100 students in classes III through XII. These pupils worked alongside 53 teacher mentors to create models and displays.
Principal Rev Fr Innocent Panmei addressed the assembly. He cited the World Economic Forum Future of Jobs Report. It notes that two-thirds of primary students will eventually work in careers that do not exist yet. He warned that technology moves fast. “Artificial Intelligence, robotics, biotechnology, renewable energy, data science, and digital creativity are rapidly reshaping our world,” he noted.
The principal stressed that schools must teach students to think critically and adapt. He reminded the crowd that character matters. While AI can process data, he insisted that human compassion remains the foundation for a peaceful society.
Chief guest Er Onongoto Soleho, who works for the Department of Science and Technology in Nagaland, praised the display. He noted the school now combines science and art. This shift represents a major improvement. He urged students to develop real-world skills to avoid being replaced by automated systems.
Soleho noted the progress in local student research. He encouraged teachers to update their own skills to keep pace with new tech. The program included a prayer by Rector Rev Fr Dr. Mattam Xavier and Bible readings by Muyeba Tikhir. Students performed a special musical number to close out the event.
