Imphal: Nearly 50 people across 13 families face an uncertain future. They have lived at the Sadbhavna Mandap Relief Camp in Khominthang since 2023. Now, the government wants them out. The residents filed a formal appeal with the Commissioner of the Home Department in Manipur to demand an alternative site.
Trouble began in November 2025. The government switched to a Direct Benefit Transfer system. Each person receives Rs. 84 every day. This replaced standard food supplies. The residents say this cash fails to keep pace with the rising costs of living. They struggle to pay for medicine, transport, clothes, and school fees.
The families claim their current situation is dire. One official memorandum states: "The amount is difficult to stretch even to meet basic daily requirements."
The state issued an eviction notice roughly a month ago. No replacement shelter followed that order. The displaced families lack the money to rent homes on their own. They fear the looming move will strip them of safety and basic amenities. They want the Home Department to provide a new, functional camp immediately.
