Kohima: The Dimapur Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union (DENSU) is demanding a fast-track trial following the alleged sexual abuse of a minor girl. During a press conference in Dimapur, union president Thongule Sangtam expressed deep concern over the case and pledged to monitor the legal proceedings to ensure accountability.
The victim had been living with the family of the accused, Watimeren Jamir, known as O. Wati, to pursue her education. According to union officials, the girl suffered prolonged abuse while in his care. The situation was discovered after school staff and the Child Protection Committee noticed behavioral changes, leading the victim to disclose the abuse during counseling sessions. Childline authorities and the Child Welfare Committee intervened, and the minor was rescued on May 23, 2026.
Police have filed an FIR and arrested Jamir after his anticipatory bail application was rejected. The union has also called for a thorough investigation into an alleged accomplice identified by the victim, urging law enforcement to apprehend all individuals involved in the harassment and intimidation.
DENSU leadership emphasized that they will oppose any efforts to suppress the case. General secretary Sheren Shiu and other union officials called for transparency and strict legal action, maintaining that the organization will continue to advocate for the victim until justice is served.
