Kohima: The District Child Protection Unit in Dimapur is hunting for the families of five children currently in state custody. These minors have sat under the care of the Child Welfare Committee for years without a single relative coming forward to bring them home. DCPO Avika Zhimomi says local newspaper ads failed to spark a response.

The clock is ticking. Parents and guardians have 30 days to step up. If nobody shows, the state will declare the minors legally free for adoption. Zhimomi noted the gravity of the situation in a press statement: "The DCPU has urged concerned parents, relatives, guardians or any citizen with information about the children to come forward and claim them within 30 days from the date of this press release."

The rescued children include Aryan, 4, found wandering Dhobinala on April 4, 2026. Mongru, 7, turned up at Burma Camp on August 1, 2025. Jareeb, 5, was found in Lhomithi Colony on September 25, 2025. Montu Mura, 9, was rescued near the Dimapur Train Station on December 14, 2022. John Khaira, 14, was discovered at Chumoukedima on July 23, 2022.

Call these numbers if you recognize these kids: 9362358230, 9612773773, 6909005712, or 7005156893.
