Shillong: The High Court of Meghalaya wants to know why DNA testing stopped at the Forensic Science Laboratory in Shillong. Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice W. Diengdoh reviewed the case this week. The bench previously ordered the Advocate General on August 11 to confirm if essential chemicals reached the facility. Tests are currently on hold.
Additional Advocate General N.D. Chullai submitted a document Tuesday to address the bottleneck. The state Directorate of Forensic Sciences issued a short-notice tender for kits and supplies. Firms and dealers have until September 9 to submit their bids for the contract. The process moves fast.
Beyond the chemical shortage, the lab faces other hurdles. N.D. Chullai stated that "maintenance work is currently under way at the Directorate of Forensic Sciences and is expected to be completed by the end of September." Officials expect the facility to be fully operational once the building repairs finish and the supply chain restarts.
