Kohima: The Dimapur Lotha Students’ Union has formally joined the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union in opposing the government’s plan to relocate the Government Hindi Institute. The current proposal seeks to move the facility from its base in Dimapur to Medziphema in the Chümoukedima district.
In a statement, the DLSU argued that Dimapur serves as the state’s primary commercial and educational hub. They noted that its central location makes it the most accessible site for students from diverse backgrounds and regions across Nagaland. Moving the institute could create significant challenges for many students, especially those from low-income families who rely on the city’s existing infrastructure.
The union questioned the necessity of the relocation and urged the government to prioritize upgrading and strengthening the existing site instead. They emphasized that Dimapur’s educational institutions have historically supported generations of students and warned that shifting these facilities threatens to create an imbalance in regional access to education.
The DLSU has called on authorities to reconsider the proposal in favor of a more inclusive strategy. They also pledged their continued support for any democratic efforts intended to protect the rights and interests of the student body.
