Kohima: The BJP Dimapur unit is fighting to get its six elected councillors a seat at the table in the Dimapur Municipal Council. Party president V Shekishe Awomi confirmed the local unit stands behind these representatives after they expressed frustration over being sidelined. Efforts to fix this are moving through the state and central leadership pipelines.
State BJP president Benjamin Yepthomi is pushing Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to grant these councillors their rightful roles. Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton and other BJP legislators have joined the effort to break the stalemate. Shekishe pointed a finger directly at those currently holding the keys to the municipal setup. "It should be understood that the blame should be directed towards the authority who is seated in the corridors of power in the state," he said.
The party claims the NPF is intentionally blocking BJP councillors, despite the People’s Democratic Alliance arrangement. While Chief Minister Rio reportedly gave verbal assurances, Shekishe says that promise has remained in cold storage. The party insists this is not just about Dimapur. Similar roadblocks are popping up for BJP members in the Chümoukedima Town Council.
Shekishe maintains the party remains unified. He clarified that the local workers are happy with the state leadership despite these frustrations. They just want their people to start working for the voters who put them in office.
