Guwahati: Dibrugarh Police arrested nine individuals and seized substantial quantities of suspected heroin, cash, and gold ornaments during a surprise raid on Saturday. The operation targeted the Harijan Colony, often referred to as Koyla Patti, located near the Dibrugarh Town Railway Station.
Officials launched the raid after intelligence gathered from earlier operations indicated the area served as a central hub for drug trafficking in the district. During the searches, police recovered 79 grams of heroin and approximately Rs 4.92 lakh in cash from the residence of Sujata Biswas.
Nayan Moni Baruah confirmed the operation is part of a broader crackdown against narcotics in Upper Assam. Regarding potential personnel involvement, Baruah stated, "If any individual involved is found to be a railway employee, the police will formally communicate with railway authorities and seek stringent departmental action against them."
Police are currently investigating the local drug network to identify further connections. Authorities are also verifying the employment status of all suspects to determine if any are staff members of the Indian Railways.
