Delayed Meghalaya Bridge Project Faces Further Wait

Shillong: Construction on the Dainadubi-Khenra-Karkuta bridge in North Garo Hills has stalled. The project remains unfinished four years after work began in 2022. Late Congress leader and former Lok Sabha Speaker P. A. Sangma first envisioned the link in 2010. His son, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, later took up the cause to boost connectivity in the region.

Rain keeps falling. Prolonged, heavy downpours have repeatedly hammered the site and halted progress. Locals want the project finished. They look to the bridge to slash travel times and link Dainadubi, Khenra, and Karkuta. The completed structure will provide thousands with better access to essential services like healthcare, schools, and local markets.

Hundreds of students rely on this route for their daily commute. They face ongoing transportation headaches while the work drags on. The construction firm claims the bridge is likely to be completed next year. Residents remain stuck in limbo while they wait for the promised connectivity. As one local noted, "Residents are now awaiting the project's completion and the promised improvement in connectivity."
