Communities Across Nagaland Celebrate International Day of Yoga 2026

Kohima: Government offices, schools, and security forces across Nagaland marked the 2026 International Day of Yoga this Saturday. Following the theme of Yoga for Healthy Ageing, participants engaged in various asanas, pranayama, and meditation sessions to promote physical and mental wellness.

At the Central Institute of Horticulture in Medziphema, staff and laborers gathered for guided sessions. Director Dr. R.L. Raut emphasized the role of yoga in preventive healthcare and encouraged employees to maintain a consistent practice. Meanwhile, Balijan English School partnered with the Patanjali Yog Samiti to host a camp where students learned posture techniques aimed at improving overall fitness.

In Dimapur, the JITO Ladies Wing hosted a multi-organization event featuring members of the Jain community, the BJP Minority Federation, and the Rotary Club. Participants practiced yoga under the guidance of instructor Rinku Jhanjhari Jain to foster social harmony and health awareness. Similarly, the Office of the Joint Controller of Communication Accounts held internal sessions to boost staff teamwork and wellness.

The Brahma Kumaris Rajyoga Meditation Centre in Kohima reached hundreds of people across the NHIDCL office, the Head Post Office, and the 13 Assam Rifles. Director Rajyogini BK Rupa Behen addressed the crowd, stating, "Yoga is not merely physical exercise but a holistic way of life that strengthens both the body and mind." She noted that meditation and breathing exercises serve as vital tools to combat modern challenges like stress, addiction, and emotional instability.

The Assam Rifles organized events across multiple Nagaland locations for personnel and their families, focusing on endurance and stress management. St. Joseph University also participated by holding sessions led by state representatives from the Bharat Swabhiman Trust. Across the region, the Northeast Frontier Railway involved thousands of employees and their families in activities hosted at the Railway Indoor Stadium and various divisional workshops to advocate for healthier living standards.
