Itanagar: Volunteers cleared 5,220 kg of garbage from the Yagamso River in Itanagar on Saturday, August 8. The operation aimed to curb improper waste disposal and shield local water bodies from pollution. The Youth Mission for Clean River (YMCR) and the Abralow Memorial Multipurpose Society organized the event, backed by the Itanagar Smart City Development Corporation Limited.

The haul was massive. Crews pulled out nearly 9,000 disposable plates and glasses, marking the most common items recovered. Volunteers also fished out 8,500 cement, rice, and online-delivery bags alongside 8,000 pieces of plastic waste.

Yukar Yaro, corporator for Itanagar Municipal Corporation Ward No. 10, praised the effort. He pushed for better disposal habits across the city. Yaro demanded residents stop dumping trash into natural water sources. He said, "Public cooperation is important for maintaining a cleaner city."

YMCR chairman SD Loda joined the call for action. He wants citizens to show more concern for local rivers. Loda stressed that protecting these waterways demands active community involvement and widespread awareness about environmental conservation.
