Officials Inspect Kohima Waste Facilities to Tackle Daily Trash Surge

Kohima: Advisor for School Education Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome led a team of officials on an inspection of local waste sites on August 10. The group visited facilities at Lerie and Dzürüzou. They need to fix the mess. The District Level Implementation and Monitoring Committee on Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, oversaw the tour.

Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem and KMC CEO Alemyapang Longchar joined the Advisor to check current processing methods. They reviewed how the city handles trash disposal and identified specific challenges for scientific waste management. These facilities must operate effectively.

The city generates between 80 and 90 tonnes of municipal waste every single day. Officials conducted the inspection to ensure the city follows the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026. This mandate requires proper collection, segregation, and processing to handle the massive volume of refuse. The work continues as the city looks to improve its infrastructure.
