Kohima: Niuland district administration held a session at the DC conference hall on August 5 to tackle waste. The event centered on the four-way Waste Segregation and Solid Waste Management Rules 2026. Officials want cleaner streets. ADC Athsangla chaired the meeting, bringing together key experts to explain how citizens must handle trash.
Yanathung Kithan, a scientist at the Nagaland Pollution Control Board, broke down the mechanics of the new mandate. He emphasized that residents must sort their own garbage before it hits the bin. "Segregation of waste from the source is vital," Kithan said. He pointed out that failing to manage refuse causes massive environmental harm. He urged people to embrace the core habits of reduce, reuse, and recycle.
Kaiho Achumi, an assistant technology manager with the Department of Agriculture, followed up with a detailed guide on composting. His presentation focused on practical ways to process organic waste at home. The session served as a push for individual responsibility to stop local environmental decay.
