Kohima: Churches throughout Kohima marked Father's Day with dedicated prayer services, worship, and cultural programs meant to honor the contributions of fathers to their families and wider society. The events focused on the responsibilities of parenting and the importance of instilling moral values in the next generation.
At the Chakhesang Baptist Church Kohima, the celebration centered on the theme of Father's Greatest Gift. Rev. Dr. Chekroveyi Cho-o, executive secretary of the Chakhesang Baptist Church Council, encouraged fathers to prioritize intentional instruction and strong character. During the service, he reminded attendees that, "Your investment today will be your gift tomorrow," while urging fathers to make decisions that protect families from materialism and secular pressures.
The St. Francis de Sales Parish in Kohima Town observed the day through Sunday Eucharistic celebrations. During the Angami Mass, speaker Visazhünuo Carmila highlighted that a father's true worth is found in raising responsible citizens rather than chasing status. She further addressed social concerns, noting the necessity of equal treatment for daughters and the role of parenting in curbing violence against women. Parish priest Rev. Fr. Mathew Mhabemo also asked families to support their fathers with respect and forgiveness.
The Holy Cross Chapel Poumai Nagas joined the tributes with a program of praise and worship, followed by a Holy Eucharist celebrated by Rev. Fr. C. Joseph. The event saw active participation from catechists, youth, and women’s associations, who provided special songs and gifts before the congregation gathered for a concluding fellowship meal.
